SRTC Celebrates 100th GED Graduate for the Year
Cairo, GA (02/29/2024) — In late December of 2023, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) Director for Adult Education Andy Semones partnered with Truist Bank to issue a new challenge to the college's Adult Education instructors and students: The 100th student to earn their GED would win a $50 gift card for themselves and their Adult Education instructor. The program's annual goal is to reach a record-breaking 198 high school equivalency (HSE) credentials by July of 2024. Reaching the 100 mark early in 2024 would mean that the program would be well on its way to meeting its goal and breaking its own record set in 2023.
On February 22, 2024, the program held a celebration at SRTC-Cairo for Cairo resident Jonathan Brown, the 100th SRTC Adult Education student to earn his HSE since July of 2023. Truist Bank sponsored a celebration that honored not only Jonathan and his proud instructor Chris Hunt, but his entire class as well. Jonathan's father and grandfather were in attendance at the event, when his father said, "I am super proud and look forward to him continuing his education! This a great stepping stone to better his life." Truist Bank's Thomasville Branch Manager Eugene Nguyen joined the celebration to present Jonathan with the gift card and other gifts.
Adult Education at SRTC includes Adult Literacy classes, Integrated Education and Training (IET) career training courses, and English Classes GED test and HiSET exam Preparation classes, offered in each of the eleven counties in SRTC's service delivery area.
