Southern Regional Technical College Names Stephen Mathis Dean for Industrial Technology

Thomasville, GA (12/16/2025) — Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) President Jim Glass has appointed Stephen Mathis as the Dean for Industrial Technology beginning December 1, 2025.

Mathis has been with the college for nearly 12 years as the Industrial, Electrical, Design, and Construction Division Chair and Electrical Instructor. As the Industrial, Electrical, Design, and Construction Division Chair, Mathis provided strategic leadership and oversight of academic programs, ensuring compliance with institutional and accreditation standards. He oversaw program planning, budgeting, and resource management while supporting curriculum development, assessment, and instructional quality. He recruited, mentored, and evaluated faculty to promote professional growth and effective teaching, while fostering communication among students, faculty, and stakeholders to advance a culture of inclusivity and student success.

As an Electrical Instructor, Mathis designed and delivered engaging instruction aligned with state standards and program objectives. He developed course materials, syllabi, and lesson plans that addressed diverse student needs while incorporating hands-on and experiential learning. Mathis evaluated student performance, provided timely feedback, and supervised practicums and internships. He actively recruited prospective students, fostered community and industry partnerships, and promoted program visibility. He also coordinated with adjunct instructors, managed classroom resources and equipment, and contributed to program assessment, budgeting, and ongoing professional development.

Mathis holds an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Systems Technology and an Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Systems Technology from SRTC. He is currently studying to earn a Bachelor of Science in Workforce Education and Development from Valdosta State University with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mathis has played a key role within SRTC, contributing significantly to various committees and student organizations. He has been instrumental in guiding SkillsUSA, mentoring numerous students who have won multiple honors and advanced to national-level competitions. His dedication to academic excellence and technical education reflects his unwavering commitment to student success and workforce development.

His commitment to student success and passion for empowering learners will be invaluable as we continue to expand our programs and prepare students for the demands of today's industrial sectors."

In his role as Dean for Industrial Technology, Mathis will be responsible for the supervision of all programs within the School of Industrial Technology including: Air Conditioning Technology, Automotive Collision and Refinishing, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Civil Engineering, Drafting Technology, Electrical Construction and Maintenance, Industrial Systems Technology, and Welding and Joining Technology.

Southern Regional Technical College offers over 150 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get students quickly into their desired careers, and 38 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia. SRTC has instructional sites located in eleven counties across Southwest Georgia for the convenience of its students. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states.
