Two Colquitt County High School Graduates Pass NCLEX-PN Exam on First Attempt
Two recent Colquitt County High School graduates have achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully passing the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) on their first attempt. Kendall Meeks and Leah Yearby, both members of the inaugural dual enrollment Practical Nursing program class, are now officially Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the state of Georgia. The achievement represents the continued success of the innovative partnership between Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Colquitt County School District, and Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC). Both students completed their high school education while simultaneously earning their Licensed Practical Nursing diploma from SRTC in May 2025.

SRTC Foundation Awards $103,261 in Scholarships for Fall Semester 2025
For the 2025 fall semester, which began August 19, the Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) Foundation awarded scholarships to 90 students totaling $103,261. The SRTC scholarship funds assist students with education-related costs such as tuition, fees, books, classroom and lab supplies, and travel-related expenses.

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) held a pinning ceremony at SRTC-Moultrie during which 18 Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) students from the SRTC-Moultrie cohort received their nursing pins. The ceremony commemorates the students' successful completion of their nursing coursework and clinical rotations. This class of nursing students participated in SRTC's formal graduation ceremony on July 29 and will officially be Registered Nurses (RN) pending the passage of their board exams.

SRTC-Tifton Surgical Technology Graduates Honored in Pinning Ceremony
On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) recognized ten graduating Surgical Technology students at a pinning ceremony at SRTC-Tifton honoring their achievements. Each of the graduating students completed multiple semesters of rigorous prerequisite and occupational coursework, including a series of clinical rotations at local medical offices. Graduates of the program receive a surgical technology associate of applied science degree. The students are now eligible to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

SRTC-Bainbridge Nurse Aide Graduates Honored in Pinning Ceremony
Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) recently recognized thirteen graduating Nurse Aide students at SRTC-Bainbridge, honoring the completion of their program. SRTC's Nurse Aide program consistently delivers outstanding results, as evidenced by excellent certification exam pass rates and strong employment outcomes. Throughout the program, the students completed the classroom training, laboratory practice, and clinical rotations required to earn their Nurse Aide certification.

SRTC Inducts New Members into National Technical Honor Society
On the evening of July 10, 2025, the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) inducted 13 new members into the organization. The formal ceremony was held at SRTC-Tifton. Campus Director, KaCee Holt, said, "It is such an honor to see so many of our SRTC students excelling in our programs and being inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. Through this organization, we have the opportunity to celebrate SRTC student academic achievements and recognize their commitment to their education, program, and communities. We are glad these NTHS inductees chose to start here and look forward to seeing them use their skills and education for the betterment of southwest Georgia."

SRTC Vet Tech Cohort Achieves 100% Pass Rate on Board Exams
For the third consecutive year, Southern Regional Technical College's (SRTC) Veterinary Technology program graduates achieved a 100% passage rate on the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE). The VTNE is a comprehensive 3-hour, 170-question exam administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards that covers nine essential domains of veterinary technician responsibility.

SRTC Students Excel at FBLA National Competition
Students from Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) showcased their exceptional skills at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Collegiate National Leadership Conference in Dallas on May 31-June 2. Three students from SRTC's FBLA-Collegiate chapter competed at the National level after placing first at the Georgia Spring Leadership Conference in March. The students were accompanied by four FBLA Advisors from SRTC: KaCee Holt, Kathie Mathis, Carol Peppers, and Carrie Viohl.

This marks the first group of CNA students completing the program since SRTC reintroduced it as a dual enrollment offering at Tift County High School last year.

SRTC Veterinary Technology Students Recognized at Pinning Ceremony
On the morning of May 1, 2025, five students were recognized at a Veterinary Technology pinning ceremony held at Southern Regional Technical College's (SRTC) Thomasville Campus. These students completed multiple semesters of rigorous occupational coursework and a series of clinical rotations at local animal hospitals in addition to their prerequisite coursework. The graduates honored include Alana Bradym Angelica Claudio, Brianna Maloney, Makala Patrick, and Ykemia Young. Veterinary Technology Faculty Sharon Poitevint, LVT said, "The Veterinary Technology class of 2025 has demonstrated exceptional resilience and clinical skills throughout their training. Their passion for animal care and commitment to excellence will serve them well in the field. Dr. Mason and I are confident they will make a remarkable impact on veterinary medicine."

Medical Assisting Students Recognized in Pinning Ceremony
On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) recognized four graduating Medical Assisting students at a pinning ceremony at SRTC-Moultrie, honoring their achievements. The students received pins and small gifts in honor of their accomplishments. The graduating Medical Assisting students include Shayla Edwards of Meigs, Ja'Miracle Hall of Thomasville, Sheila Walker of Tifton, and Amecia Young of Thomasville. Each of the graduating students completed multiple semesters of rigorous prerequisite and occupational coursework, including a series of clinical rotations at local medical offices. The students completed the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and we are proud to announce that they achieved a 100% pass rate. This designation represents a medical assistant who has been credentialed through the Certifying Board of the AAMA.

Strength in Scrubs: Men in Nursing
Male nurses make up about 12% of total nurses, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In the last 10 years alone, the percentage of male nurses has increased by more than 59%. Male LPNs increased by 112%, NPs by 108%, and RNs by 51%. While this growth is encouraging, healthcare organizations continue to prioritize gender diversity in nursing. Industry leaders are actively implementing recruitment strategies, mentorship programs, and educational initiatives to further increase male representation in this vital profession, aiming to strengthen the nursing workforce through greater diversity. SRTC Central Sterile Supply Processing Technician Graduates Honored in Pinning Ceremony
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) recognized seven graduating Central Sterile Supply Processing Technician students at a pinning ceremony at SRTC-Tifton honoring their achievements. The Central Sterile Supply Processing Technician program is designed to provide entry-level training that will prepare graduates to function in the sterile supply processing and distribution areas of healthcare facilities. The program is based on a combination of theory and clinical instruction, applying scientific principles to the specific work area. Through theory classes with laboratory participatory components, students gain the knowledge and skills necessary for clinical application in healthcare settings. The program's academic and practical experiences provide students with the preparation needed to be eligible to sit for the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) certification exam.
