Southern Regional Technical College Names Mary Beth Watson Vice President of Human Resources

Thomasville, GA (02/20/2024) — Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) President Jim Glass recently announced that Mary Beth Watson, SHRM CP has accepted the role of Vice President of Human Resources for the college. While continuing her leadership of SRTC's Human Resources department, Watson will also become responsible for the college's Campus Police and Facilities departments.

Watson began her career in K-12 classrooms but soon transitioned to higher education, serving the former Moultrie Technical College in various leadership roles, including Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Director of Student Financial Services, and Director of Economic Development. Since 2007, Watson has been Vice President and Co-Owner of JWIC and Moultrie Made, small businesses she owns with her husband James. In 2016, she took a break from higher education to serve as Vice President of Accounting and Administration for the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie. In 2022, she agreed to return to serve as SRTC's Human Resources Director.

"Southern Regional Technical College plays a tremendous role in contributing to the success of our students, employees, and the communities we serve," said Watson. "We do noble work here, and I am excited to have new opportunities to impact the effectiveness and efficiency of our operation. I look forward to collaborating with the campus safety, facilities, and human resources teams to ensure that we consistently provide the supports and services that guarantee exceptional experiences for our stakeholders. We will steadfastly pursue innovation and continuous improvement in all aspects of our work."

For over 20 years, Watson has been an extremely involved member of the Southwest Georgia community, volunteering her time on numerous boards, committees, advisory panels, and councils. Since 2013, Watson has sat on the Colquitt County Board of Education, acting as Chair and Vice Chair numerous times throughout her terms. She currently serves as a board member for the First National Bank Advisory Board, the Colquitt County Educational Foundation, and the Children's Cheer Toy Shop. She is also an alumna of the Colquitt County Archway Partnership High Potential Leaders Program, the UGA Fanning Institute for Leadership Community Leadership Program, and the Georgia Academy for Economic Development.
